Nervous System Listening Programs

SAFE AND SOUND PROTOCOL (SSP) + REST AND RESTORE PROTOCOL (RRP)

Sound-based listening programs designed to support nervous system regulation, connection, and restoration through an individualized, provider-guided process.

Sometimes Healing Needs to Begin With the Nervous System

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

Helping the nervous system become more available for safety and connection.

We may find ourselves constantly scanning our environment, reacting strongly to everyday experiences, feeling overwhelmed by sensory input, or shutting down when things become too much.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a listening-based intervention developed by Dr. Stephen Porges and informed by Polyvagal Theory. Through specially filtered music, SSP is designed to support neural pathways associated with autonomic regulation, auditory processing, and social engagement.

What Might SSP Support?

  • Nervous system regulation and resilience
  • Anxiety and feelings of hypervigilance
  • Emotional regulation
  • Sensory and auditory sensitivity
  • Greater tolerance for busy or stimulating environments
  • Social engagement and connection
  • Communication and the ability to interpret social cues
  • Attention, focus, and processing
  • Navigating transitions and changes
  • Stress tolerance
  • Emotional awareness and expression
  • Feelings of calm, safety, and groundedness

The Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP)

Supporting the body’s capacity to settle, restore, and recover.

Sometimes the nervous system doesn’t need more insight. It needs rest. The Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP) is a sound-based listening intervention developed by Anthony Gorry and Dr. Stephen Porges. It uses purpose-designed rhythmic soundscapes intended to support homeostasis, the body’s ongoing process of maintaining internal physiological balance.

While SSP focuses more on pathways associated with safety, sensory processing, and social engagement, RRP emphasizes restoration, recovery, and reconnecting with the body’s capacity to settle.

RRP is delivered through a carefully paced, 10-session listening program, with the timing and progression adjusted to each person’s needs.

What Might RRP Support?

  • Chronic stress and fatigue
  • The ability to settle and relax
  • Sleep and restorative rest
  • Physiological balance
  • Digestive comfort
  • Emotional awareness
  • Anxiety and overwhelm
  • Recovery following stress
  • Greater comfort noticing sensations within the body
  • Clarity and focus
  • Capacity to engage more fully in therapeutic work

Which Program Is Right for Me?

Nervous System Support for Your Unique Path

There is some overlap between SSP and RRP, and you don’t need to decide which one you need before contacting me. We’ll explore your nervous system history, current experiences, goals, sensitivities, and available supports to determine together where it makes the most sense to begin. Some people may ultimately benefit from both programs.

SSP May Be a Good Fit If You Experience:
  • Anxiety or hypervigilance
  • Sensory or sound sensitivity
  • Difficulty feeling safe, even when you know you’re safe
  • Becoming easily overwhelmed
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Difficulty recovering after activation
  • Challenges with connection or social engagement
RRP May Be a Good Fit If You Experience:
  • Chronic stress or fatigue
  • Difficulty slowing down
  • Feeling “wired but tired”
  • Sleep challenges
  • Physical tension or digestive discomfort related to stress
  • Difficulty noticing or experiencing sensations within your body
  • Feeling depleted, disconnected, or out of physiological balance

How Guided Independent Listening Works

At home, at your pace, with support along the way.

1. Consultation + Orientation

We’ll discuss your history, goals, and sensitivities to determine the most appropriate program and create an individualized listening plan.

2. Supported First Listening

We’ll experience your first listening session together, observe how your nervous system responds, and establish a comfortable starting pace.

3. Listen at Home

You’ll use the Unyte Health app to complete most of your listening independently, following your personalized pacing recommendations.

4. Check In + Adjust

Through brief online check-ins, I’ll monitor your responses and help you determine when to continue, adjust your pace, or pause.

This isn’t a program to race through. More listening isn’t necessarily better listening. The goal is to work at a pace your nervous system can comfortably receive and integrate.

What Does Listening Look Like?

Listening takes place at home through the Unyte Health app using compatible over-ear headphones. Depending on your individualized plan, you may listen while resting or engaging in quiet, comfortable activities.

You don’t need to meditate or do anything special while listening. The focus is on finding a pace and environment that feel supportive for your nervous system.

Who Can Participate?

You don’t need to be an ongoing therapy client of mine to participate in SSP or RRP. These programs can be offered independently or alongside other therapeutic work.

We’ll begin with an initial assessment to determine whether one of these listening programs may be appropriate for your needs.
